ABOUT THE HAGAN TIME CAPSULE

LEAVING A HAGAN FOOTPRINT

A time capsule is a collection of objects and stories put together to preserve the memory of a place, experience, or group of people at one point in time.  It is a method of communication, which captures a moment for the future.  A special ceremony was held at the September 2015 Reunion, during which we buried the Hagan Time Capsule.  All of us who went to Hagan, whether it was two weeks, eight weeks, one summer or ten, carry within us experiences and memories that have helped shape our values and beliefs and the people we have become.  The Hagan Time Capsule included objects, mementos, a book about Hagan, scrapbooks, and stories that meant something to us.  We included things that helped define this special bond we share, in order to preserve our childhood memories and honor the place where they happened.  Our stories within the time capsule carry an important message, and describe a moment in time, especially about girls, for generations to come.

EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE BURIED THE HAGAN TIME CAPSULE, YOU CAN STILL CONTRIBUTE YOUR STORY

In addition to being placed within the Hagan Time Capsule, each story has been posted to the CampHagan.com website.  We are eager to have more people write about their time at Hagan, so that we can continue to post stories to the website.  Isn’t it amazing that we are still connected to each other, to this place, all these many years later?  For some of us, that relationship began over 70 years ago.  If you are interested in writing about your Hagan experience, you might ask yourself:  What experiences, thoughts, and feelings do I want to preserve from my time at Hagan?  What do I want people to know about why Hagan is important to me?  Was there a person at Hagan who changed my life?  How has Hagan influenced who I have become?  Why does Hagan still hold a place in my heart and in my life?

Your story can be from 1-5 pages about a significant Hagan memory or experience.  It can be funny, serious, emotional, or something else entirely.  Why did you choose this particular story?  How did this story impact you as a person?  Email your story to Sandy Dempsey at  HaganGathering@gmail.com with your full name (include your last name when you were at Hagan) and the years you were at Hagan.  If you prefer to submit your story anonymously, that is fine, too.

Instead of a written story, you might prefer to choose a photo and describe why this photo is your Hagan story.  Who is in the photo?  What does it mean to you?  What does it say?  Please scan the photo at 300 dpi. (dots per inch) and then describe the details on a separate page.  Email your photo and description to HaganGathering@gmail.com with your full name (include your last name when you were at Hagan) and the years you were at Hagan.  If you prefer to submit this anonymously, that is fine, too, although this might be more difficult if you are using a photo.

The Hagan Time Capsule was planted during a special ceremony in 2015. The memories that are included within it now belong to the land which birthed them.
