What Character You Characters Are!
We are and continue to be who we are today because of experiences and choices we have made. Our years at camp were such impressionable years. Directors, staff, and peers all guided us in our decisions of whom we choose to be.
What a gift in my life to be a Hag! It was filled with characters with character! For me, the attributes of someone with good character are someone who lives and models for others: honesty, fairness, loyalty, good values, responsibility, helps others, being the best you can be, courageous and open minded, having integrity, open to improvement, trustworthy, kind and compassionate.
I have tried to share and model these qualities as a wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend.
As we have reunited in more recent years, my Hag friends are truly characters with character. I celebrate and am so grateful for their friendship then and now.
Many memories linger within my heart and soul. One special memory was our love of singing. We sang all day…grace before meals, funny or happy songs after meals, hymns nightly at vespers, and more serious songs at campfires. We even wrote songs as a cabin competition. We sang with laughter and tears, always sung with beautiful harmony. Now, all these years later, I find myself singing so many of these songs with my grandgirls. They love singing Johnny Appleseed before family dinners. Running Along Home and jumping into Bed is a cherished ritual. As they snuggle under the covers, we take turns picking which song we will sing together before resting our heads. We each have favorites (I love the Mountains and the Daffodils, One Little Candle, Peace I Ask of Thee Oh River, and many others).

Nancy, remember me, your old camper in Sr. 6 (or was it 4?) I will always have great memories of you and that great summer. I too loved the singing. It was a great experience.
