A Few Cherished Memories From My 10 Summers At Hagan – Our time capsule will be a happy one!
- Nancy Rosenquest (Reeves) and I getting our parents to leave NJ at the crack of dawn so we could be the FIRST campers in our cabin, there was not a year, as campers, that we did not get those top bunks!!!!!
- Red caps, yellow caps, green caps bobbing in the strong Delaware River current.
- Matching headbands with our knee socks!
- Early morning dew and fog on the mountains at flag raising.
- Hoping I could one day put up all 10 fingers when singing the Camp song about how many summers you came to camp. And I did!!!
- Laughing till…well you know what…and then laughing more.
- Junior mints, sugar Daddy’s and Bonomo Turkish taffy, and Nutty Buddy’s from the canteen.
- Making ash trays, lanyards and popsicle stick boxes with a marble on top! (Year after year!)
- The long walk from Junior 1 to Great Hall. (7 years old and the youngest camper that session!)
- Sitting on the stone wall waiting for parents to arrive on visiting day.
- Cots on the lawn on Fridays…dust bunnies…folds to the door….shutters slamming in the rain.
- Short sheeting Sandy Dempsey’s bed….over and over.
- Putting popcorn kernels in the pancake batter when I was a Stewardess, and turning all the mini juice cups upside down for the juice pourer the next day!
- Vespers, campfires, nature hikes, canoe trips, walks to Miller to see my little brother.
- Feeling accepted.
- Making friends that last a lifetime and memories to fill my heart with joy forever!
Thanks Hagan
